Transforming an Historic School into a Vibrant Neighborhood Hub
Former classrooms into Affordable Housing Units
The second and third floors of the former Marlborough School will be reconfigured as affordable and attainable housing. KCCLT plans to provide a mix of renter-occupied and owner-occupied units within the historic building.
Hallways into Community Space
The historic building has wide hallways with exposed brick and natural lighting. These spaces will be designed to promote community uses and activities. Businesses on the first floor may use this space for waiting areas or indoor dining.
Vacant land and parking lots into Land Trust Townhomes
With support from the Kansas City Housing Trust Fund, KCCLT is in the development planning stages of creating newly constructed townhomes on the site. These townhomes will fit in with the existing neighborhood context, and will be provided to homebuyers under the Land Trust model.
Cafeteria into Restaurant Start-Up Space
The former cafeteria is planned for small-scale commercial kitchens, perfect for local catering services, ghost kitchens, small restaurants, cafes, and more!
Classrooms into Entrepreneurial Offices and Artist Studios
The first floor of the former Marlborough School will host small-scale offices and studio spaces for local business owners. These spaces will be perfectly suited for artist seeking studio space, or professionals seeking small offices, such as architects, therapists, nonprofits, and accountants.
Gymnasium into Recreational Class Space (dance, yoga, martial arts classes)
The former gymnasium is a beautiful space with abundant natural lighting and high ceilings. The possibilities for reuse are endless, and KCCLT is seeking creative users to activate the space for a variety of users, such as climbing, yoga, workout classes, martial arts, and more! This space also includes the former locker room areas, which can be used for offices, storage, and other backroom needs.
